About R. Paul Drake

R. Paul Drake is Henry S. Carhart Collegiate Professor of Space Sciences at at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering. He also serves as Director for the UM Center for Laser Experimental Astrophysics Research. 

Drake is the 2017 recipient of the American Nuclear Society Edward Teller Medal.  Johns Hopkins University reported that the award was give to Drake "for his seminal work in radiation hydrodynamics, hydrodynamics, and laser-plasma interactions, and for educational contributions, advancing fundamental high-energy-density physics and its applications to astrophysics."

Paul Drake's research is focused on experimental, theoretical and computer-simulation of laboratory, space and astrophysical plasmas.

Dr. Drake was featured in the BBC's documentary "Hyperspace" (2001) and the Discovery Channel's "Engineering the Universe" (2009).
